Have you ever been judged for where you chose to live?

"Yes. Prior to moving into the house I live currently I was often judged for living in public housing. I grew up mostly in the projects from Kindergarten to 6th grade. Then I moved to another building that wasnt the projects, but everyone always said it might as well had been. It was annoying, and I stopped trying to defend myself, because really what was wrong with the projects? These people still lived in the hood also just not the 'projects' specifically so they were no better than me."

Do you think there are expectations of being a black female?

"Of course. I think there is the automatic expectation that we will handle it, get things done, be strong, be poised when necessary and that our pain is tolerable."

Have you ever worried about going to a place and being the only black female there?

"Not really. I've been concerned about it but its never a reason for me not to go. It's always other reasons that make me want to skip an event. I'm used to being the only or one of few brown faces in a white crowd."
