Have you ever been judged for where you chose to live?
“Yes – I grew up in Jamaica queens and moved to Westchester when I was 25. During my move and I’d often hear ‘oh you live in a white neighborhood now’ or ‘oh when are you coming back to the hood’. Not sure why anyone needed to point that out during my move but they did none the less.”
Have you ever felt that you had to change a life goal to meet an expectation of family?
“In a way, yes. I only date people I know will be accepted by my family (race-wise). This isn’t a life goal, more of a lifestyle choice. Also career wise: Caribbean parents are not as accepting of anything art-related. They’d be much happier with conventional careers so yes, I think I’ve chosen my career path based on this as well.”
Who is your favorite black female TV or movie character and why?
“I currently like Yara Shahidi in Blackish. Her character overall in the show and I love her style. I also like that she’s apart of such a tight-knit, supporting family.”
