Have you ever been judged for where you chose to live?
“Yes. While at my last job, I moved into a new apartment. I live in West New York, NJ, which is right next to Weehawken. A coworker, who lives in Weehawken, urged me to move there. I chose WNY because the rent for a 1BR was way more affordable because the area is less gentrified. I never heard the end of it about how he didn't understand why I'd want to live with "those people" (POC) in WNY.”
Have you ever felt that you had to change a life goal to meet an expectation of family?
“Not really, no. I'm grateful for that. The women in my family, going all the way back to my great grandmother, have been huge proponents of me getting an education, a job and becoming stable in my life before I worried about finding a husband.”
