Have you ever felt that you had to change a life goal to meet an expectation of family?
“I have held back my own ambitions for family. Like many women, this is not uncommon. I have turned down opportunities to keep from uprooting the family and I have scaled back my confidence so others can feel comfortable. I might do some things differently knowing what I know now, but family will always come first in my decisions.”
What does self-care mean to you?
“Self-care is really assessing our needs and then drawing on your inner power to ‘act’ on those needs. As a wife, mom, career woman and mentor I know first hand how everyone else's needs become more important than yours. As I got older, more seasoned in my career and wanting more control over my life I began to push myself to care for self. I started practicing yoga about 7 years ago and at that same time, I also went natural with my hair. I think life-altering experiences/events like these help you to center, create more mindfulness and holding on to a sense of self is key to one's mental and physical health.”
What is your biggest achievement to date?
“Being the first African-American female to keynote at AdCraft Detroit's AdCon and showing young African-American advertising and marketing college students that there is someone that looks like them in the industry and giving them a voice. Starting my own Brand Identity Consulting Agency, Society ReDefined Consulting.”
